MassHealth Coverage for PCA Services?

Published by

on

The types of services offered by the MassHealth PCA Program under MassHealth Standard may help you if you are elderly and have a permanent or long-lasting disability that keeps you from being able to do your daily living activities, like bathing, grooming, eating, getting dressed, toileting, moving around, taking your medicines, etc , unless someone physically helps you.

Will MassHealth help me with Personal Care Services?

The simple answer is, YES!

Members must:

■have a permanent or long-lasting disability;

■need someone to physically help you with your daily living activities, like those listed above, which you cannot do by yourself;

■have a doctor’s written authorization that you need PCA services; and

■get prior authorization from MassHealth

MassHealth offers many healthcare benefits to seniors and people with disabilities, who are residents of Massachusetts. The first step is to apply. Even if you believe your income is over the limit, it’s worth applying because you may be eligible for a fee-based service, qualify through the Health Connector, or able to receive services based on other factors. Eligibility for seniors and those in need of long-term care is determined by an array of factors, besides income. For example, medical bills, cost of private insurance, PCA needs of the person, and more.

The Senior Guide to Health Care Coverage is available to download above. This guide provides helpful information for those seeking information on coverage for seniors and those who require long-term care.

I’ve included the Federal Poverty Guidelines. Seniors may qualify for MassHealth based on income and family size.
